Land, Edwin
(1909-91)
   American inventor. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he studied at Harvard and in 1937 founded the Polaroid Corporation. In 1941 he developed a three-dimensional motion-picture process based on polarized light and worked on the possiblity of instant photography; in 1948 the Polaroid system was launched.
